Proof of Funds: Build the Story Before the Bank Transfer
A bank balance is not the whole financial story. A reviewer may need to understand who owns the funds, how they were earned, why they are available and whether the supporting documents agree.
Map the funding structure first
Write down the applicant, sponsor, relationship, account owner, amount, source and intended expenses. If two sponsors are involved, explain each person’s role rather than combining documents without a clear structure.
Trace the origin of major deposits
A sudden deposit may be genuine, but it still needs a coherent explanation supported by authentic records. Possible sources include employment savings, business income, an asset sale or a gift—each requires a different evidence chain.
Keep dates and figures consistent
Sponsor letters, bank statements, employment records and application forms should not contradict one another. Convert currencies carefully and avoid describing estimates as exact figures.
Do not manufacture evidence
Never alter statements, payslips, contracts or business records. False documents can damage more than one application and may create serious immigration consequences.
Review before money moves
Planning early allows time to identify missing history, collect lawful source documents and understand any minimum holding-period requirement in the destination’s current rules.
Frequently asked questions
Can a relative sponsor me?
That depends on the route and authority. The relationship, sponsor capacity, fund ownership and supporting documents must all be acceptable.
Is a large closing balance enough?
Not necessarily. Some assessments consider history, source, ownership, accessibility and consistency with the rest of the application.
